"The great tradition of New York theater is sustained by the WorkShop Theater Company!" - Mercedes Ruehl, Oscar and Tony Award Winner
Family and friends like you have been the lifeblood of the WorkShop Theater Company for the past four years. By asking for a little help from a lot of people, we've raised over $300,000 to build our dreams.
We are profoundly grateful for your support in making those dreams a reality. A donation of just $25 (or any amount of your choosing) will help maintain a creative home for over 170 artists.
Your contribution not only keeps our doors open, it allows us to provide tickets, at low or no cost, to senior centers and to students, some of whom may be experiencing a play for the very first time.
"Your Macbeth kept my 11th graders from the Bronx at the edge of their seats! The generous discount you provided made the show affordable for everyone." - Ilana Guttin, NYC High School Teacher
Our primary mission, however, is to develop new plays. In 2007, WorkShop Theater patrons enjoyed over 200 individual performances of script-in-hand readings and full productions of new works for new audiences.
In just the first three months of 2008, we brought Langston Hughes' characters to life in The Simple Stories. A great artist traveled from the canvas to the stage in A Brush With Georgia O'Keeffe. We also produced Levy Lee Simon's The Guest at Central Park West, a play first read here two years ago, before it went on to win Levy Lee the 2007 AUDELCO Outstanding Playwright Award. (Among his fellow nominees was Pulitzer Prize and Tony Winner August Wilson!)
As you can see, the WorkShop works. A generous donation will ensure that our important work continues.
